SA Bands Suck?

I am a South African and a proud supporter of South African music.  Judging by the massive success that South African musicians are having both locally and internationally, it is clear that SA bands don't 'suck' - they rock!

The Parlotones are receiving airplay on radio stations in Europe, Japan and Asia and will be touring the United Kingdom as a support act for British group Starsailor this year.

Local alternative group Seether have had songs like "Fake It" and "Rise Above This" appear on the United States Rock charts.

Eden have established themselves as one of South Africa's most successful 'boy bands'.  Their voices are fantastic, they write their own songs and their music reflects local culture.  They also received three South African Music Award nominations for their debut album, Point Of No Return. that reached Platinum status.

Tree63 won the 2001 GMA 'Rock Album of the Year' with their first album release in the USA.

The list of popular and successful South African bands is as long as it diverse.  Names like Danny K, Loyiso, Just Jinjer, Mean Mister Mustard and Watershed make you feel proud.  Even international artist such as Manfred Mann, Trevor Rabin and Dave Matthews were all born here.

While everyone has a different taste in music and I might not personally listen to all the local artists around, it is important to support South African bands.  These artists are part of our culture, our history and our nation!

  1. It is a proud achievement for South African bands that have made it big for themselves and gone the extra mile to achieve success in their passion. South African music brings a different factor so their music does stand out from international artists.

It comes down to the South Africans citizens who need to support the bands of South Africa. We are a nation of many cultures and we need to support each other.

The bands mentioned come from different variations of music but they share a common factor, they are South African and proud to be South African. They are the ambassadors of South African music when travelling the world and they are doing a great job.
